Whether it’s a poinsettia sale to raise money to fight animal abuse, sending stuffed animals to individuals dealing with a loss, or sponsoring a community event, Delaware Attorney Services takes advantage of every opportunity to give back to the community. But when the company founder passed away due to suicide last year his daughter and business partner sought other ways to give back. The pair stumbled upon a special event hosted by the Delaware Mental Health Association and chose to sponsor as a way to honor the company founder’s legacy.
[My father] donated to every charity and organization that asked him. If a kid walked into the office selling Joe Corby’s pizza he would buy a dozen. Donating to an amazing cause seemed only appropriate.

"The founder of the company, William Golt, was my father and Kim Ryan, the co-owner of Delaware Attorney Service’s best friend,” Lauren Golt explained. “When we lost him it obviously affected both of us tremendously.” After his passing, Golt discovered the E-Racing the Blues event and chose to sponsor. “It was a fitting way to honor my father,” she said. “He donated to every charity and organization that asked him. If a kid walked into the office selling Joe Corby’s pizza he would buy a dozen. Donating to an amazing cause seemed only appropriate.”
The E-Racing the Blues Event is an annual 5k/10k run/walk sponsored by the Delaware Mental Health Association. It promotes the improved mental well-being of individuals and families through support, education, and advocacy and raises money for causes like depression, suicide prevention, and anti-bullying. “Kim and I are both personally involved in charitable organizations, but this was a great opportunity to do something together for someone we both loved.” Golt furthered that it’s important to support causes that promote a happy, healthy life. “Depression is not looked at as a disease or an illness, but it is,” she explained. “One in five Americans suffer from depression every year and it is the main cause of suicide.” Delaware Attorney Services has sponsored the event for the past two years and one of its owners serves on the committee. “Seeing all the hard work that goes into the race and the fact that the money earned goes to such a wonderful organization makes Kim and I overjoyed,” Golt said. “We only wish we had discovered it earlier.”
Delaware Attorney Services has never shied away from an opportunity to give back to their community, donating to the B+ Foundation which supports children who are fighting cancer and participating in an annual poinsettia sale to raise money for the Delaware Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Kim Ryan has also started Prayer Bear Ministry as a way to provide comfort to those in pain due to loss of a loved one or a health issue within the family. Through the organization, stuffed bears are distributed to those in need to provide a sense of comfort, and each bear comes with a tag that notes it has been prayed over by the Women’s Bible Study group. “We have received so many kind letters and feedback,” Ryan said. “It makes it all worth it.”
In light of Delaware Attorney Services’ history of giving back, we asked why it’s important for process servers to give back to their communities. “The simple answer is because we can,” Ryan said. “When there is an opportunity to contribute to the community, we step forward to help as much as we can.” She also noted that by participating in charitable drives and community events process servers can work to break through the negative stigma that surrounds the profession. She encourages other firms to give back as it can help set a positive example for process servers across the country.
Golt remembers her father's sharp sense of style, which bordered somewhere between hilarious and fabulous, and believes people around the office and within the community looked forward to seeing his outfits each day. "My dad was a force of life with a kind soul and an incredible sense of humor," she said. As Delaware Attorney Services continues to take an active role in the community, she believes that sponsoring the E-Racing the Blues Event is a way to continue her father's reputation for supporting his community. "As a company, we stay active in the community," she said. "We try to spread the knowledge that giving back is necessary to keep the world moving." In adding E-Racing the Blues to the list of charitable organizations that the firm supports, it appears that Delaware Attorney Services is doing just that.
