On Saturday, December 5th, process servers from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. will head to Ted’s 355 Diner in Rockville Maryland for the Mid Atlantic Association of Professional Process Server (MAAPPS) annual meeting. For more details on the upcoming meeting, ServeNow.com spoke with MAAPPS President Torri Schaffer.
We’re going to have a speaker, elections, and the overall goal is to develop a plan for moving forward with education and legislation,” she explained. Schaffer noted that it’s important for process servers to attend to vote for officers, participate in discussions and more. On the agenda for the meeting is voting, discussing education and legislation, conversations about e-service, and discussion of some relevant issues
Regarding legislation, Schaffer explained that “There is nothing pending legislatively but we have three jurisdictions that we all server papers in.” MAAPPS members serve papers across three jurisdictions: Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. Each jurisdiction presents its own challenges when it comes to pushing for legislation.
Education is a major focus for the annual meeting. “Our goal is to develop classes that process servers can attend to learn more about the rules, policies, and laws that govern our industry,” Schaffer said. “This not only helps our servers but also sends a message to the Courts and the legal community that we care about professionalism in our field.”
Regarding elections, members that have a candidate in mind are instructed to email nominations to Schaffer, who will be discussing the past, present, and future of the association. For more information on the meeting, visit the MAAPPS website.
