On March 2, 2013, Georgia process servers will gather at the Atlanta Airport Marriott in Georgia for the 1st Annual Georgia Association of Professional Process Servers (GAPPS) Conference. With a recent boost in membership and a lot happening legislatively, this is sure to be a landmark conference for process servers in Georgia.
For more information, we spoke with GAPPS Treasurer Elizabeth Smith. Here's what she had to say:
This is GAPPS's very first conference, why is this the year for it?
Smith: The short answer is that we were just recently approved to be the sole training provider for our state's certification program. Now that we are the training providers we thought it would be a great time to add some Continuing Education to our annual meeting.
What is GAPPS expecting out of this conference?
Smith: We hope to get our members more involved in GAPPS and to give back to the membership more than just an excellent website.
What are GAPPS's major goals for this conference?
Smith: To provide interesting & informative speakers, conduct a business meeting, elect officers & board members & for our members to enjoy themselves while they are networking.
What has the association done to prepare for this conference?
Smith: Basically everything, we are starting from the ground up-A lot of man hours in locating a beautiful but economical site, finding guest speakers for the conference, emailing members about the conference, telephoning members about the conference, so many things still to do.
Why should Georgia process servers attend this conference?
Smith: It will be a great way to obtain continuing education, find out what is going on with our certification program and see what being on the board entails.
What are some of the major issues this conference will address? What are the major challenges process servers in Georgia currently face?
Smith: Our major challenge is obtaining a truly statewide certification as it was originally intended to be by our legislature.
What will the educational seminars include?
Smith: We will have presentations on marketing, technology and Federal service

What are you most excited about for this conference?
Smith: I am looking forward to our members to enjoying themselves while they get to meet new people and talk to like-minded people about the issues we are facing as servers in Georgia.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Smith: I would like to thank Servenow for your help in getting out the word about our conference and in making our website so efficient that it made registration so much easier.
