Process servers are no strangers to spending time in the car. In fact, some report spending over forty hours a week driving to serve process. We were curious about what this would add up to in total mileage, what level of cost process servers incurred, and how process servers feel about spending so much time in the car. We learned that when only 40 process servers combined their total hourly time spent driving in one year it added up to a total of six years.

Data and Statistics

The average process server drives 24,868 miles per year while serving papers. That's the equivalent of driving across the United States 4.5 times each year.
The average process server spends the equivalent of 52 full calendar days driving to serve papers every year.
Process servers on average spend more than double what the average person does on gas: $5,687 versus $2,000.

Process servers who drive hybrids save an average of $3,100 on gas each year compared with those who drive mid-size cars.
