City Has More than 11,000 Unserved Warrants

FLAGSTAFF, AZ -- The courts in the Flagstaff area have more than 11,000 warrants not yet served. Many of the warrants are for failure to comply or appear, and experts say the high number of warrants not yet served has occurred because police focus on violent and serious offenders. The local jail has only 500 beds and to serve all outstanding warrants, the jail would need twice as many beds as well as a much larger group of process servers. Some residents have suggested sweeps using temporary warrant officers or process servers to serve the outstanding warrants. Others have suggested a warrant amnesty solutions which would allows defendants to turn themselves in in exchange for reduced penalties and fines.
