Is Photo Radar Really Effective?

SHOW LOW, AZ -- Show Low Police Chief Jeffrey Smythe believes that photo radar is a success because the city has seen fewer accidents since adding traffic cameras. Crashes have also declined at the highest-collision intersections, where the cameras were first installed. Smythe notes that license plate reader (LPR) from photo traffic enforcement is very handy, as it allows authorities to solve crimes and also lets police issue tickets to repeat offenders personally, without waiting for a process server. In some areas of the US, photo radar has been questioned on legal grounds, because the tickets are mailed or served by process servers, rather than issued by authorities.
