Preferred Legal Services, Inc. has been a forerunner in legal support services since its origin in 1966.
Founded that year by Jerry Topolos, current president, the company was a charter member of the California Association of Professional Process Servers (formed in 1968), and the National Association of Professional Process Servers (formed in 1985). It took the lead in co-founding two new firms: California Legal Support Services, Inc. (1980), a corporation comprised of 14 offices statewide, and East Bay Attorney Service (1982) in Oakland.
Along the way, Preferred Legal Services overtook several of its regional competitors, growing through the acquisition of Legal Photocopy Service (1968), Attorney's Messenger Service of California (1979), A & B Legal Service (1980), and Rapid Serve (1984).
After 18 years at 1095 Market Street in San Francisco and 10 years at 1232 Market Street, the company has moved to its present location of 210 Fell Street, San Francisco. Incorporation came in 1986, with Jerry Topolos as president and Christine Topolos as vice-president.
